In June of 1908, ground was broken for the creation of a roadway dedicated to hosting international road races and for the exclusive use by automobiles. Stretching from western Queens to Lake Ronkonkoma, the Long Island Motor Parkway became synonymous with early motor car enthusiasm until its demise only 30 years later.
