James Polk was considered a dark horse Presidential candidate in 1844, and he had a few issues he wanted to settle as president, such as making Texas a state and acquring all the land he could from the Mexican territory and Russian Alaska. Polk’s actions as president would see America transformed during his four years in office from 1845 through 1849 to become a united land with states and territories from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean.
